How do I update one line in a corporate training voiceover without redoing everything?
Corporate training is the genre most likely to need a single-line edit a year after delivery: a policy changes, a product name changes, a regulation citation updates. Record each module paragraph by paragraph so that "fix the line about the 2024 policy" is a 60-second job, not a rebuild.
Plan for revisions on day one
The single best decision you can make on a corporate training project is to record the narration in a paragraph-based tool from the start. Every line of the script lives in its own row with its own audio file. When the inevitable "can we change one sentence" request arrives, you have an exact map from script to audio that lets you change one sentence.
The single-line update workflow
- Open the project.
- Find the row with the line that needs to change.
- Update the text in that row to the new wording.
- Click Re-record on that row.
- Read the new line. Hit Stop. Crop edges if needed.
- Open the merge screen (the app rebuilds the merged file automatically).
- Export. Captions are re-exported alongside the audio.
Total time, mic warm-up included, is about five minutes. The rest of the narration is untouched and sounds exactly the same as it did on first delivery.
If you are doing the fix months or years later, your room, microphone, and gain settings should match the original session as closely as possible. A new line recorded in a different room will sound jarringly different next to the originals. Document your original setup at delivery time.
Deliver the project file, not just the audio
When you hand off a corporate training narration, give the client the VoiceOverAndOver project folder (it lives under the app's user data folder), not just the merged WAV or MP3. That way the in-house team can do their own one-line fixes without re-engaging you. If you do not want to give that up, at minimum keep your own copy archived for the project's expected revision lifetime.
Re-export the same way you delivered the first time
Use the same export format (WAV vs MP3, bitrate, loudness target) on the fix as on the original. The merged file the client receives will sit at the same level on their LMS, and the captions will replace cleanly.
